RUN TO LIFELisa Freeman's On The Run/Road Again--to Bring Healing, Hope & Life
"The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come to bring life and more abundantly." John 10:10
Ever since Lisa was 18, she has felt called to share her story of healing, hope, and life abroad.
"Only this time, I hope I won't have to hitchhike," she jokes.
But seriously, over the years, Lisa's had numerous visions and dreams.
"One day, about four years ago, while sitting at my computer getting ready to write, I had a vision. I saw myself speaking at a young girl's funeral. She was a victim of dating violence. The room was jam-packed with teens. As I spoke, I said how proud I was of her, not because she was laying in that coffin, but because she spoke up about the abuse. I told everyone there, that even though her life may have been silenced, her voice lives on. Her voice speaks out to warn others who may be in abusive, bullying, or violent relationships. So if you're in a bad relationship get out while you still can. And instantly, it was like all the teens in the room were rethinking their relationships."
When I came out of this vision, I immediately questioned God. "God, why did I have this vision? You know how much I love teens. And you know how much I hate funerals. So why God, why?"
I don't know how to describe it, but an almost audible voice said to me, "If you go back to the schools and share your story and this vision, you'll be saving lives, not speaking at funerals."
Lisa had panic attacks just thinking about entering a school again. School was not a comfortable place. She quit in the 7th grade after a life of bullying and torment, and even later, at 26, when she got her GED, and went onto college, she began having horrible panic attacks and had to quit.
For two years she was agoraphobic due to the abuse she had suffered as a child, teen and young woman. Dealing with issues from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, she had trouble driving and leaving her house, let alone talking to principals or even thinking of even getting up in front of a crowd of people in a school.
But she had to obey that Voice or she knew it might cost young girls, teens, and women their very lives. This is where her formerly abused dog, Snickers, came into play. Using their parallel stories of running away and abuse, God led her to create a fun, educational program, "Take A Bite Out Of Abuse" to help stop abuse, bullying and violence in their tracks.
Immediately she began meeting with principles over the summer, presenting her curriculum, and by that same fall she began speaking in public and Christian schools (elementary, junior high, and high schools) all over Michigan.
As rising Abuse Survivor & Advocate, this Award-Winning Christian Author and Certified Pet Therapist only has one desire, to take this message of hope and life to a dying world.
"Run to life, not all the garbage we did," Lisa says, referring to how many times she and Snickers have returned to the garbage in their lives. "He almost died three times from running away and eating garbage," she said. "And I returned to garbage by going back to bad relationships or doing things that nearly destroyed my life too."
The run to life tour is definitely something worth running for.
The pair have won numerous awards for writing and pet therapy. And now they have been honored with the position of Healing Projects Specialists for the Bully Police USA.
"Snickers and I aren't running for another award," she says. "We're running to spare the lives of others in this war on bullying, abuse, and violence. And we need your help to bring about this healing."
Lisa's family has committed to traveling with her as well as their three dogs. In fact, it was her son, Brian's dream and lifelong goal. He always said, "Mom you can't go without me." Sadly, Brian passed away from a rare heart condition in August, 2010. He was bullied all his life. Yet he lived and died forgiving his bullies.
The Freeman's are now planning this tour in Brian's honor with CHANGE for Brian to stop abuse, bullying and violence. Read More
